In a powerful display of solidarity, nearly 1,000 workers from various sectors gathered at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) park in Phnom Penh to commemorate the 138th International Labor Day. Under the theme "Together to promote labor rights, freedom of association, and better work in Cambodia," workers called for significant improvements in their working conditions.

Dressed in white shirts and chanting slogans, workers marched from the CDC park around Wat Phnom to the National Assembly, where they submitted a petition outlining their demands to the government. Central to their concerns were calls for an increase in the garment workers' salary to $250, the restoration of union rights, and enhanced workplace safety measures.

Ath Thorn, president of the Cambodian Labor Confederation (CLC), emphasized the need for fair wages and improved social security, stressing that freedom of association in factories must be upheld. Representatives from the National Assembly assured workers that their petitions would be reviewed, acknowledging the importance of addressing issues related to wages, social security, and employment rights.

As workers continue to voice their concerns, their unwavering determination underscores the collective effort to safeguard labor rights and promote a more equitable work environment in Cambodia.
