The Telangana police have made significant strides in combating cyber fraud syndicates operating in Southeast Asia, rescuing two techies lured into fraudulent activities in Cambodia. This intervention sheds light on a concerning trend where unsuspecting Indian IT workers are trafficked into countries like Cambodia and Myanmar to work for Chinese-run gangs engaged in cyber fraud.

Over the past years, numerous Indian nationals have fallen victim to these schemes, with approximately 250 individuals rescued and repatriated from Cambodia by the Indian government. The Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed India's commitment to ending this practice, collaborating with Cambodian authorities and agencies in India to crack down on perpetrators.

Reports suggest that more than 5,000 Indians are held against their will in Cambodia, forced to carry out cyber frauds amounting to hundreds of crores of rupees in losses to victims in India. The gravity of the situation extends beyond India, with an estimated 10,000 individuals from various countries exploited by Chinese cyber criminals.

While Cambodia and Myanmar have faced criticism for their inability to curb these criminal operations, China's involvement remains unclear. Western nations have accused China of cyberespionage and supporting cyber crime groups, exacerbating the issue.

Efforts to address this crisis require concerted international cooperation and decisive action to dismantle cyber crime syndicates and hold perpetrators accountable.
