Strengthening Bilateral Ties: Cambodia-Australia Cooperation in Focus

Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha Discusses Collaborative Efforts with Australian Embassy
Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, expressed optimism regarding continued cooperation between Cambodia and Australia during a recent meeting with Pablo Kang, Chargé d’Affaires at the Australian Embassy in Cambodia. The discussion, held on May 2, 2024, highlighted various areas of collaboration, including technical assistance, materials provision, and training initiatives to support the Ministry of Interior.

Sar Sokha extended his gratitude to the Australian Ministry of Interior for extending an invitation to lead a delegation from the Ministry of Interior on a study tour to Australia in June 2024. This visit aims to facilitate knowledge exchange on strategic areas such as immigration management, cyber security, decentralization, and deconcentration. The Cambodian delegation seeks to learn from Australia's expertise in these domains, particularly in enhancing the capabilities of the National Police Force and improving communication strategies to combat cybercrime.

The meeting also underscored the enduring partnership between Cambodia and Australia, with both sides emphasizing the positive outcomes of recent engagements, including Prime Minister Hun Manet's visit to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit. Discussions encompassed key areas of cooperation, ranging from immigration and transnational crime combat to public administration and social accountability reforms.

Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha expressed optimism about future collaboration and reiterated Cambodia's appreciation for Australia's assistance in advancing various sectors. He highlighted the forthcoming visit of the Ministry of Interior delegation to Australia as a significant opportunity for mutual learning and capacity building.
