Five air-to-water generation stations have been established in Cambodia’s Kampot, Battambang, Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, and Oddar Meanchey provinces to address severe water shortages. This initiative, part of the third phase of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Services Development Programme, is funded by a $1 million grant from the Japanese government through the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

"Atmospheric water purification equipment is a new technology that can help people living in remote rural areas access clean drinking water," the Ministry of Rural Development noted. The project, which began in 2020 and is expected to conclude by the end of 2024, aims to provide clean water and improve health and sanitation in rural communities.

In Kampot's Chhouk district, a station produces 100 to 200 liters of water daily, benefiting hundreds of families. To ensure sustainability, a small service fee is charged for water collection. The ministry emphasized the importance of community ownership and effective management for the success of these stations. The initiative supports Cambodia's National Action Plan on Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene, aiming for 100% coverage by 2030.
