Bokeo Authorities Intensify Efforts to Eliminate Fraudulent Call Centres in Golden Triangle SEZ

Hundreds of call centres dismantled, and suspects repatriated in ongoing crackdown.
Authorities in Bokeo province are ramping up efforts to ensure that fraudulent call centres no longer operate in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Colonel Anousin Sackpaseuth, Head of the Golden Triangle SEZ Security Command, reported significant progress in dismantling these operations under directives from the Party Central Committee and the Ministry of Public Security.

Over nine operations, 267 call centres were shut down, and individuals from 16 nationalities were arrested. Chinese and Vietnamese nationals involved have been repatriated, while plans are underway to return other foreign suspects through coordination with their respective embassies. Lao nationals caught working in these centres received written warnings before being sent home.

Efforts intensified last August when a task force of 250 officials from district and cyber security bodies was assigned to investigate and dismantle illegal operations in four key locations within the SEZ. Moving forward, authorities will continue collaborating with regional and international partners to root out illicit activities and restore security in the zone.
