Phnom Penh, October 24, 2024 - Cambodia unveiled its first report on children's environmental health on October twenty-third, a collaborative effort with UNICEF and the Clarios Foundation, to address the ecological threats facing the youth.
Highlights from the report include the need for strengthened policies, enhanced healthcare capacity, and increased community engagement.
Director Kol Hero from the Ministry of Health emphasized the government's commitment to protecting children, noting the risks to gains in maternal and child health from environmental threats.
The comprehensive recommendations target pollution control and further research, highlighting critical issues such as air and lead exposure.
Citing UNICEF data, Cambodia is among Southeast Asian nations most vulnerable to environmental hazards affecting children, where twenty percent of deaths in those under five are pollution-related.
