Cambodia’s International Airports See 25 Percent Surge in Passenger Traffic

Strong Recovery in Aviation Sector with Two Million Travelers Recorded
Cambodia’s international airports have reported a robust increase in passenger traffic, with two million travelers recorded in the first five months of the year. This marks a 25 percent increase over the same period in 2023, highlighting a strong recovery in the nation’s aviation sector.

Mao Havannal, Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, shared these insights during a visit to the construction site of Techo International Airport on June 6. "These numbers reflect the resilience and progressive recovery of Cambodia's aviation industry post the Covid-19 pandemic," he commented.

As of 2024, Cambodia hosts 31 domestic and international airlines with flights to and from eight ASEAN countries, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The country operates three major international airports: Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, and Sihanouk International Airport.

In 2023, the combined passenger count at these airports exceeded 5.1 million, representing a 115 percent increase from 2022. The new Techo International Airport, spanning Kandal and Takeo provinces, is on track to begin commercial operations in mid-2025.
