Cambodia's International Airports See 5.65 Million Passengers in 2024
Air travel surges nearly 40 percent as tourism and connectivity grow
Cambodia's three international airports – Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, and Sihanoukville International Airport – welcomed 5.65 million air passengers in 2024, marking a 39.8 percent increase from the previous year, according to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).
Minister Mao Havannall highlighted the steady growth in air travel, attributing it to an increase in direct flight routes, more airlines operating in Cambodia, and the country's open skies policy. Currently, 30 airlines operate direct flights to Cambodia from ASEAN countries, Mainland China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
Looking ahead, the number of air passengers is projected to exceed 7 million annually by 2025. The government's focus on modernizing airport infrastructure and improving aviation services has been instrumental in supporting this growth.
Tourism also played a key role, with Cambodia attracting 6 million international tourists during the first 11 months of 2024. Of these, 2.15 million visitors arrived by air, a 28.6 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The continued efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and stakeholders in promoting Cambodia as a premier tourist destination have significantly boosted air connectivity and passenger traffic, positioning the Kingdom as a key hub in the region.
