Cambodia's startup ecosystem has experienced significant growth in recent years, marking a shift towards digital transformation and economic resilience. According to the Assessment of the State of Cambodia Ecosystem 2024, the number of tech startups in Cambodia has more than doubled between 2022 and 2024, rising from 54 to 119, with strong participation in fintech, e-commerce, and digital media. The country’s digital economy is supported by government initiatives such as the Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework, which aims for a GDP growth rate of 5.8 percent in 2024, projected to increase to 6.4 percent by 2026.

International recognition and partnerships have further accelerated Cambodia's progress, with increased foreign investments fueled by the country’s strategic location and favorable government incentives. Speaking at the Startup Ecosystem Meetup #3, experts highlighted the role of collaboration and innovation in driving the ecosystem forward. While challenges such as limited venture capital and intellectual property protection persist, the growing willingness among stakeholders to collaborate offers a hopeful outlook.

Cambodia’s startup scene also reflects positive strides in diversity and talent development. Over 170 startups are led by founders with tech skills, and 58 percent of individuals in the ecosystem possess interdisciplinary experience. However, there remains room for growth in areas such as mentorship and gender representation, with women making up just 26 percent of startup co-founders. With continued support and development, Cambodia has the potential to become a leading startup hub in Southeast Asia.
