Cambodia Sees Significant Growth in Agricultural Exports in Early 2024

Exports Surge to 6.13 Million Tonnes in First Half of 2024
Cambodia has experienced a substantial increase in its agricultural product exports during the first half of 2024, with volumes reaching 6.13 million tonnes. This represents a 57 percent rise from the 3.9 million tonnes recorded in the same period the previous year, according to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF). The revenue from these exports also saw a notable increase, reaching 2.85 billion US dollars, up nearly 19 percent from 2.4 billion US dollars in the first half of 2023.

The diverse range of exported agricultural products included rice, rubber, cassava, mangoes, fresh bananas, pepper, cashew nuts, longan, corn, and palm oil. Key markets for these exports were Vietnam, Thailand, China, and South Korea. The agricultural sector remains a cornerstone of Cambodia's economy, complementing other vital economic activities such as garment and footwear exports, tourism, and the construction and real estate sectors.

MAFF's Minister, Dith Tina, emphasized the country's success in ensuring food security and producing agricultural products that exceed domestic demand for export purposes. In 2023, Cambodia exported over eight million tonnes of agricultural goods, generating close to 5 billion US dollars in revenue.
