Cambodia Set for Stable Economic Growth in 2024

IMF Report Predicts Promising Outlook Despite Global Challenges
According to the IMF Regional Economic Outlook for April 2024, Cambodia's economic landscape is poised for stability and growth, with inflation projected to remain steady at 2.3 percent for the year, slightly up from 2.1 percent in 2023. The report paints a positive picture, forecasting a growth rate of six percent for 2024 and 6.1 percent for the following year, positioning Cambodia as one of ASEAN's leading economies.

The IMF attributes this growth to Cambodia's resilient economic activity, which outperformed expectations in 2023 despite global challenges. With rapid disinflation and robust demand in emerging markets, Asia and the Pacific are on track for a soft landing, the report suggests.

Key drivers of Cambodia's growth include the industry segment, expected to grow by 8.6 percent, followed by services at 6.4 percent, and agriculture at 1.3 percent, as highlighted by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC). However, both external and internal challenges persist, including slower growth in partner countries, geopolitical tensions, and climate change.

Despite these challenges, Cambodia remains optimistic about its economic prospects, with policies in place to address concerns and foster sustainable growth. With prudent management and strategic initiatives, Cambodia is well-positioned to navigate the evolving global landscape and maintain its trajectory of economic development.
