Cambodian ministries are ramping up efforts to combat the spread of fake news, following the latest false claim that Interior Minister Sar Sokha was promoted to the title of prince. Sokha quickly denied the claim and called for the perpetrator’s arrest.

Tep Asnarith, spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, highlighted the rise of misinformation, fueled partly by AI misuse. The ministry plans to launch a “Say No to Fake News!” campaign by the end of 2024 to encourage responsible information sharing. Experts urge caution and public education to ensure transparency and protect freedoms while addressing fake news.
