A new cashew nut processing plant in central Cambodia, launched in early 2024, is offering significant employment opportunities and contributing to the local economy. With the facility located closer to workers' homes, it has eliminated the need for many to commute long distances to Phnom Penh for factory jobs.

The plant processes thousands of tonnes of cashew nuts annually, with the majority of the product being exported to China. This has provided locals with steady employment and a better standard of living, with many earning more than they did in previous jobs. Cambodia is the world’s second-largest producer of raw cashew nuts, and the plant is playing an essential role in supporting local agricultural producers by purchasing raw nuts directly from them.

The introduction of the plant is also contributing to the growth of Cambodia's cashew industry, which spans over 700,000 hectares of land across the country. Local workers are benefiting not only from job creation but also from the development of the sector, which is expected to continue its expansion.
