China and Vietnam have reinstated their cross-border passenger train service between Hanoi and Nanning, effective May 25, 2025, following a suspension that began in February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The service, operated jointly by Vietnam Railways Corporation and China Railway Nanning Group, includes trains MR1 and MR2 running daily between Gia Lam Station in Hanoi and Nanning Station in China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Train MR1 departs Gia Lam at 9:20 p.m., arriving in Nanning at 10:06 a.m. the following day.

Conversely, MR2 leaves Nanning at 6:05 p.m., reaching Gia Lam at 5:30 a.m. Immigration procedures are conducted at Dong Dang Station in Vietnam and Pingxiang Station in China.

Ticket prices for the Hanoi–Nanning route are approximately one million Vietnamese dong, or about thirty-eight U.S. dollars.

Children under four years old travel free, while those aged four to twelve receive a fifty percent discount.

Groups of six or more passengers are eligible for a twenty-five percent discount.

In addition to the Hanoi–Nanning service, a new direct train route between Hanoi and Beijing is scheduled to commence on May 27, 2025.

This bi-weekly service departs Hanoi every Tuesday and Friday evening, arriving in Beijing on Thursday and Sunday mornings, respectively.

The one-way fare for this route is approximately nine point three million Vietnamese dong, or about three hundred sixty-one U.S. dollars.

The resumption of these services is part of broader efforts to enhance bilateral connectivity and strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

The cross-border train services operate under the framework of the Vietnam–China Border Railway Agreement signed in 1992.
