BOI Secures $3.8 Billion TikTok Data Center Investment Amid Digital Economy Growth

Thailand’s Board of Investment leads major digital infrastructure growth with global tech giants committing to long-term projects.
Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) has approved TikTok Pte.

Ltd.'s massive 126.8 billion baht (approximately 3.8 billion dollars) investment to establish a data hosting service in the country.

The project, set to support the activities of TikTok's affiliated companies, will involve high-performance data centers across key provinces, with operations expected to begin in 2026.

This investment is part of the BOI’s success in driving Thailand’s rapid growth as a digital hub.

The board recently approved projects totaling 170.5 billion baht (about 5 billion dollars), including a 3.25 billion baht cloud services project by Siam AI Corporation for artificial intelligence applications.

BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi emphasized that these investments contribute to Thailand’s vision of becoming a leading ASEAN digital and innovation hub.

Thailand has seen significant investments from global tech companies.

In 2024, Alphabet’s Google committed 1 billion dollars to a data hub in Chon Buri.

Amazon Web Services followed with a 5 billion dollar, 15-year investment plan in 2023, and Microsoft has announced plans for its first regional data center in Thailand.

The BOI’s strategic approach includes incentives and revised promotion measures in emerging sectors.

Recent initiatives promote bioeconomy projects, such as incentives for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Mixed SAF, aligning with Thailand’s push toward sustainable development.

By successfully attracting international investment, the BOI has cemented its role in driving digital and sustainable growth, making Thailand a competitive player in global technology and innovation markets.
