A trade delegation from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), led by John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is set to visit Cambodia on July 30-31. This visit aims to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia and the broader ASEAN region. Wingco Lo, President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, highlighted the potential for growth in Cambodia due to its low production costs and increasing openness to foreign investment. The delegation will also promote Hong Kong's business advantages and attract talent from the region.

Duncan Chiu, a legislative councillor for Hong Kong's Technology & Innovation Functional Constituency, emphasized the potential for addressing Hong Kong's manpower shortage, particularly in the innovation and technology sectors. He pointed out that healthcare technology developed in Hong Kong could find new markets in Southeast Asia. HKTDC economist Henry Cheung added that Hong Kong's tech startups could aid Cambodia's shift towards a technology-driven economy, presenting new opportunities for diversification beyond textiles and garments.

The HKTDC tour seeks to strengthen business ties between Hong Kong and Cambodia, building on a robust trading relationship. In 2023, Cambodia became Hong Kong's seventh-largest import and export market within ASEAN, with a total trade value of $893.4 million. This visit aims to further enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two economies.
