Authorities in Stung Treng province have arrested a man linked to illegal logging activities in the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary, specifically in Toal Village, Anlong Phe Commune, Thalaburiwat District. The suspect, a local resident, claimed ownership of the land where dozens of large teal trees were cut down, allegedly under the guise of resin extraction. However, Governor Sar Soputra emphasized that this was a cover for illegal logging, and police are now searching for other individuals believed to have fled the area.

The investigation revealed that 56 teal trees, including 49 newly cut and 7 mature trees, had been felled, with diameters ranging from 40 to 100 centimeters. The timber was reportedly intended for construction purposes. Authorities discovered markings indicating plans for further deforestation, with the cleared area surrounded by rubber plantations. The working group confirmed that the activities involved felling, sawing, and splitting the trees, signaling significant environmental encroachment.
