The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has issued a notice urging the public to remain vigilant against counterfeit US dollar banknotes circulating in the country. The warning, signed by Kith Sovannarith, Director General of Banking Supervision, highlights an increase in fake dollar bills detected in recent months.

In response to this issue and at the request of the US Secret Service, the NBC has authorized banks and financial institutions to confiscate counterfeit dollar bills without offering compensation. Confiscated bills will be sent to the US Secret Service for investigation.

Financial institutions are also required to report the identities of customers attempting to circulate counterfeit notes to the NBC. The public is advised to carefully inspect US dollar banknotes before accepting them in transactions to avoid financial losses.
