The National Security Council (NSC) of Thailand will assess the trade benefits and security implications of a proposal to establish a new permanent border checkpoint with Cambodia. Local authorities in Trat province are advocating for Ban Tha Sen in Muang district to be upgraded to a permanent checkpoint. Currently, the crossing is open three days a week to support local border trade.

The Ministry of Commerce supports the transformation of Ban Tha Sen into a permanent gateway to facilitate the transportation of goods to Phothisat province, Cambodia, and further to Phnom Penh, approximately 230 kilometers from the border. The proposal awaits cabinet approval and NSC's backing.

This initiative aims to enhance trade relations and economic integration between Thailand and Cambodia, potentially boosting local economies on both sides of the border.
