The interior ministries of Cambodia and Thailand have committed to enhancing cooperation in tackling scamming and drug-related crimes. During the 8th Meeting of the Governors of Cambodian-Thai Border Provinces held on October 24, Thai Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his Cambodian counterpart Sar Sokha, both deputy prime ministers, agreed to intensify efforts against transnational crime, focusing particularly on call center scams and drug trafficking.

Anutin highlighted the mutual benefits of increased collaboration, especially in boosting border trade and ensuring public safety. He praised Cambodia's cooperation in addressing online crimes and emphasized that neither country should serve as a base for illegal activities targeting third countries. The meeting concluded with a ten-point agreement covering crime prevention, trade relations, border demarcation, migrant workers, and the opening of new border checkpoints.

The discussions also underscored the importance of leveraging cultural similarities as soft power to enhance tourism and create jobs. Prime Minister Hun Manet called for the expedited opening of more border checkpoints, including the Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian checkpoint, to promote trade and people-to-people exchanges. This renewed commitment comes amid broader regional efforts to address digital scams and enhance cybersecurity, with Cambodia taking proactive steps to understand and combat the issue at the national level.
