Phnom Penh Tops Asia’s Most Affordable New Year’s Eve Destinations

The Cambodian capital offers budget-friendly celebrations with lively festivities and cultural charm
Phnom Penh has been named the most budget-friendly city in Asia for New Year’s Eve accommodations, according to Agoda’s latest findings. Data from the digital travel platform revealed that average room rates in Phnom Penh on December 31, 2024, stood at just sixty-seven United States dollars, making it an attractive choice for cost-conscious travelers.

Trailing behind Phnom Penh were Hanoi, Vietnam, with an average rate of seventy-nine United States dollars, and Jakarta, Indonesia, at ninety-two United States dollars. Despite its overall affordability, Jakarta also claimed the cheapest individual hotel room in Asia at just two dollars and forty-five cents, while Bangkok’s Siam district recorded the region’s most expensive suite at over four thousand five hundred United States dollars.

Lam Vu, Agoda’s Country Director for Vietnam and Indochina, highlighted the value of these cities, noting that while destinations like Tokyo and Bangkok remain popular, cities such as Phnom Penh and Hanoi offer incredible celebrations without a hefty price tag. Phnom Penh’s riverside fireworks, vibrant street parties, and cultural landmarks such as the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom provided travelers with a festive and memorable experience.

Hanoi and Jakarta also stood out for their lively celebrations, with Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem Lake hosting cultural performances and Jakarta offering live concerts and dazzling fireworks displays. Agoda’s findings highlight a growing trend of travelers seeking affordability without sacrificing vibrant celebrations, positioning Phnom Penh as a standout destination for budget-friendly New Year’s Eve festivities.
