Chhoeun Bunchhorn, the Chief of Police for Prey Veng Province, has pledged to put an end to traffic infractions by Vietnamese bus drivers within the upcoming one to two months. This commitment comes on the heels of a recent campaign focused on educating and raising awareness among bus operators traversing the province. Bunchhorn highlighted that while some drivers adhere to traffic laws, numerous international buses, especially those arriving from Vietnam, have been disregarding regulations on National Road No. 1. So far, no fines have been imposed, as the emphasis has been on driver education.

The problem of unsafe driving by international buses has persisted for some time, with many Vietnamese drivers exhibiting speeding behaviors and taking unnecessary risks. Bunchhorn expressed disappointment with past enforcement efforts, which he deemed ineffective in reducing violations. He stated that he would guarantee stricter enforcement of the law in the future, warning that any officers who do not uphold traffic regulations would face consequences.

In light of increasing worries regarding reckless driving, the Ministry of Interior has tasked the National Police with addressing the conduct of bus drivers operating between Phnom Penh and Vietnam who break the law. Additionally, the ministry intends to deploy concealed cameras to monitor passenger buses, particularly to identify speeding violations. These initiatives aim to enhance road safety for both local residents and international travelers.
