Restoration work on the nearly one-thousand-year-old southern library of Angkor Wat in Cambodia's Angkor Archaeological Park has been successfully completed, according to the APSARA National Authority. The library, located on the second terrace of the iconic temple, had suffered severe structural damage, with rotting and cracked stone pillars and compromised walls threatening its stability.

Over five months, restoration teams reinforced the library's pillars, walls, floors, and foundations. New stones were integrated to prevent further sagging of the floor, while damaged stones in both exterior and interior pillars were replaced to improve structural integrity. These efforts have ensured the library is now stable and safe for visitors.

Angkor Wat remains Cambodia's most visited tourist attraction, drawing over one million international visitors in 2024 and generating significant revenue from ticket sales. The successful restoration marks another milestone in preserving this UNESCO World Heritage site's historical and cultural legacy.
