Thailand is exploring the feasibility of constructing a wall along its border with Cambodia to address illegal crossings, according to a statement by Thai government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub. This move aims to prevent illegal migration, the movement of call-center workers, and the trade of drugs and contraband. The proposal follows a cabinet decision after Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra visited the Khlong Luek border checkpoint on March 1.

The 817-kilometer-long border between Cambodia and Thailand already has 121 border markers erected by Cambodia, covering 86 percent of the demarcation. However, Cambodia has yet to receive formal information or an invitation to discuss the border wall proposal. Cambodian Foreign Affairs spokesperson Chum Sounry confirmed that no official communication has been received from Thailand regarding the matter.
