USAID Commends Cambodia's Progress in Malaria and TB Eradication Efforts
Samantha Power, USAID administrator, praised the partnership between the United States and Cambodia in tackling tuberculosis and malaria, highlighting Cambodia's zero malaria deaths for six years and its imminent elimination of the disease. Power recognized local contributions, especially that of entomologist Yeang Chheang, and announced a $4 million commitment towards eradicating tuberculosis by 2030. USAID also plans to invest $1 million to study blood lead levels among children in Cambodia as part of a new initiative to combat lead poisoning, while emphasizing USAID's role in enhancing educational outcomes in the country.

Power noted that Cambodia has been free of malaria-related deaths for six consecutive years and is close to eradicating the disease entirely, thanks partly to USAID support.

Chheang received the 'Unsung Hero' award at the UN COP28 for his efforts.
USAID has further committed an additional four million dollars toward TB elimination by 2030, alongside initiatives to enhance diagnostic technology access.
Moreover, USAID announced a new one-million-dollar investment to tackle lead poisoning, emphasizing the importance of long-term community relationships supported by local staff.
