As International Women’s Day approaches, young women in Cambodia are proving that technology is not just a man’s world. Despite challenges, these trailblazers are using tech to solve community problems, break stereotypes, and inspire the next generation of girls to pursue careers in tech.
Though women remain underrepresented in Cambodia’s ICT sector, comprising only 10% of the workforce, young women like Kao Menghorng are changing the narrative. A 19-year-old data science and AI student, Menghorng’s journey into tech began with the Technovation Girls program, where she developed apps to solve local problems. Her achievements, including an award-winning climate change app, led her to establish initiatives like Ladies in Tech and Stemunity, helping young women gain essential tech skills and explore STEM careers.
Despite Cambodia’s perception of tech as a male-dominated field, Menghorng is determined to prove that everyone should have the right to pursue their dreams.
