Cambodia has made significant strides in improving access to clean water and sanitation, with eighty-seven percent of its population now having access to basic drinking water, according to Chreay Pom, Director General of Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Rural Development. Of this, twenty-one percent have access to safely managed drinking water.

On sanitation, ninety-two percent of the population now have access to basic sanitation services, while fifty-one percent benefit from safely managed sanitation systems. Fourteen out of Cambodia's twenty-five provinces have achieved Open Defecation-Free status, with the Ministry of Rural Development planning to declare seven more provinces free of open defecation by the end of 2025.

Minister of Rural Development Chhay Rithisen emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring universal access to clean water and sanitation by 2030, aligning with Cambodia’s goal of sustainable and inclusive development.
