Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on the Cambodian people to trust in the nation’s justice system while directing the Ministry of Justice to amend the Penal Code following a high-profile murder case involving former okhna Srey Sina.

In a social media address, PM Hun Manet emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring fair and just law enforcement. He urged the judiciary to meticulously review and enforce the law in the murder case of Srey Sina, who is charged with killing two individuals on June 14, 2024.

"We cannot intervene in judicial matters but must ensure justice is served," stated PM Hun Manet. Sina, 50, allegedly shot and killed two engaged individuals over a clothing dispute, provoking public outcry. The charges carry potential sentences of 10 to 15 years, which many consider insufficient.

Acknowledging gaps in current laws, PM Hun Manet has instructed the Minister of Justice to amend the Penal Code to impose harsher penalties for such grievous crimes in the future. The government's commitment to legal reform aims to enhance public security and social order.
