Next Sunday, Cambodia will celebrate 20 years as a member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), a partnership that has played a crucial role in its economic development. WTO membership has granted Cambodia access to international markets under favorable conditions, including special and differential treatment that has allowed for the diversification of its exports across multiple sectors.

The WTO has helped strengthen Cambodia's trade policies and economic growth, with the country’s GDP rising from $5.3 billion in 2004 to $29.61 billion in 2022. Foreign direct investment has surged, and the nation’s trade volume has reached nearly $47 billion in 2023.

With continued progress, Cambodia is on track to graduate from the UN’s least developed country category by 2029, reflecting its economic resilience and the benefits of global trade participation.
