Cambodia to Launch National Cleanup and Water Quality Campaigns in 2025

New initiatives aim to achieve a cleaner, greener Cambodia
The Ministry of Environment is set to roll out three major campaigns in 2025, including a nationwide cleanup of all national roads and improved water quality monitoring. Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth announced the initiatives during the ministry’s annual review meeting on December 16, highlighting ongoing pilot programs on highways like National Roads 3, 4, 41, and 51.

Sophalleth emphasized progress in tackling plastic waste, noting an 80 percent reduction in imports and cleaner roads across 11 provinces. Initiatives such as the “Today I Will Not Use Plastic” and “Clean Cambodia, Khmer Can Do” campaigns have engaged millions of citizens, demonstrating strong public support.

The ministry also plans to install monitoring systems at factories to ensure wastewater meets environmental standards, with 36 facilities already equipped. Sophalleth affirmed strict enforcement, pledging to close any factory that endangers public health or the environment.
