Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment has fined Jin Lu Yuan Energy Environment Protection Industry Co., Ltd., a laundry company in Kampong Speu province, for discharging untreated wastewater into a waterway that flows into Kandal province.

The inspection revealed pollutant levels exceeding permissible standards, causing murky water and a persistent foul odour. Despite earlier orders to halt discharges and treat wastewater properly, the company failed to meet required standards.

Under environmental laws, the company faces fines, compensation for ecological damage, and a mandate to repair affected areas by January 31. Additional measures include consolidating wastewater discharge points, separating rainwater drainage, and improving wastewater management systems to prevent further pollution.

The ministry emphasized continued monitoring to ensure compliance and the protection of local biodiversity and ecosystems.
