Cambodia Launches Innovation Framework to Boost Business Competitiveness

The Cambodia Enterprise Innovation Index (CEII) aims to foster entrepreneurship and strengthen national economic growth
The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI), in partnership with the Food Technology, Research and Innovation Platform (FTRIP), has unveiled the Cambodia Enterprise Innovation Index (CEII) Guidelines. This new framework is designed to enhance the innovation capabilities of Cambodian businesses and strengthen the country’s national competitiveness. The initiative aims to create an ecosystem that fosters entrepreneurship, driving economic growth in Cambodia’s evolving market.

Minister Hem Vanndy highlighted the importance of the CEII in Cambodia's economic transformation, emphasizing its role in improving the nation's position in the Global Innovation Index. "Enhancing enterprises’ innovation capability presents a crucial opportunity to elevate Cambodia’s national prestige and foster inclusive growth," he said at the launch event. The CEII addresses both innovation inputs, such as research and development investments, and outputs like new products and services, creating an environment where innovation can thrive.

The initiative is supported by the EU-funded CAPFISH-Capture project and is implemented by UNIDO. With growing digital connectivity and a young, dynamic population, Cambodia is well-positioned to transition into an innovation-driven economy, according to H.E. Igor Driesmans, the Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia. The CEII has already received formal endorsement from the Science, Technology, and Innovation National Council.
