Thai authorities have taken strong measures against four cell towers in the Sangkhla Buri district of Kanchanaburi province, believed to be relaying internet signals to call centre scam operations across the Thai-Myanmar border.

The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau launched the operation, dubbed “Blowing Up Scammers’ Bridges,” on Wednesday.

According to CCIB chief Pol Lt Gen Trirong Phiewphan, three out of the four cell towers were deactivated for violating regulations established by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission or due to improper registration.

Furthermore, the investigation revealed an unauthorized electricity cable running from Thailand into Myanmar, prompting relevant authorities to take subsequent action.

This initiative is part of a wider Thai government strategy aimed at cutting off supplies of electricity, internet, and fuel to five border regions in Myanmar, including Tachileik, Myawaddy, and Phaya Thonsu townships.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that these actions have been taken to address transnational call centre fraud impacting victims in Thailand and beyond.
