Cambodian Villager Killed by Landmine in Battambang Province

Tragic incident highlights ongoing danger of remnants from decades of war
A Cambodian villager was tragically killed on Friday after his truck, loaded with cassava, ran over an anti-tank landmine on a farm in Battambang province. Heng Ratana, head of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre, confirmed the explosion involved a landmine left from decades of conflict.

This incident follows the deaths of two deminers earlier in the week while clearing an anti-tank mine in a former battlefield. Cambodia remains heavily contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance from wars spanning the 1960s to the 1990s, leaving many at risk.
