Cambodia has launched a five-year strategic plan (2024–2028) to increase the number of women in management positions at the sub-national administration. With an estimated budget of $2 million, the plan aims to tackle the gender gap in leadership roles, where women currently account for just 24 percent of management positions.

The Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, and Ministry of Civil Service will oversee efforts to amend policies, identify potential female leaders, and foster gender equality. Initiatives include reserving roles for women and raising awareness about the importance of female leadership in governance.

Officials stress that empowering women and girls in governance will enhance public services and promote gender-balanced decision-making at the local level, demonstrating Cambodia’s commitment to achieving gender equality.
