Excitement mounts as the finishing touches are applied to the Kampot International Tourism Port (KITP), heralding a new era of growth for Cambodia’s tourism landscape.

Situated in Teuk Chhou district, Kampot province, spanning a vast 4.5 hectares, the KITP is on track for temporary operation in the third quarter of 2024, with a grand opening slated by year’s end. This ambitious project aims to cater to the increasing influx of tourists and fortify the nation's tourism industry.

According to Minister of Public Works and Transport, PENG Ponea, discussions held on May 5 highlighted the progress of KITP's development. Initiated on August 8, 2018, and completed by June 30, 2022, the project received financing of US$9.27 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). However, its operational readiness hinges on securing an operation company with substantial investment capital and expertise to undertake necessary enhancements to the waterway and safety infrastructure.

Once operational, KITP is set to serve as a vital international seaport connecting Cambodian archipelagos with global destinations, bolstering connectivity, inspiring confidence in visitors, creating job opportunities, and fostering economic growth.

Minister PENG Ponea underscored the importance of KITP in addressing the country's geographical needs, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to draft a comprehensive Cambodia port master plan 2050.
