A €2 million EU-supported project, “Enhancing the Quality of the Statistical System in Cambodia,” was launched on December 5 to improve the country’s official statistical management and ensure fair, transparent access to information for all users. The initiative connects Cambodian and European statistical institutions through peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and technical support, covering frameworks, infrastructure, data quality standards, and professional training.

European Union Ambassador Igor Driesmans highlighted the importance of reliable data for good governance, calling on the Cambodian government to invest further in statistics. Minister of Planning Bin Troachhey said the partnership reinforces evidence-based policymaking, fostering development strategies that meet the real needs of Cambodians. With consortium partners from Italy, France, Lithuania, and Poland, the program will focus on strengthening institutional coordination, improving methodologies for data production, and expanding professional development for statisticians.
