Prime Minister Hun Manet Thanks Japan for Support in Upgrading Sihanoukville Autonomous Port

New container terminal increases port’s capacity and boosts Cambodia’s logistics sector
Prime Minister Hun Manet has expressed deep gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their support in enhancing Cambodia's logistics sector, particularly with the upgrade of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) in Preah Sihanouk province. Speaking at the inauguration of the new 253-meter container terminal, built with a loan from Japan’s Official Development Assistance, he noted that PAS can now handle 38 percent of ships globally, a significant increase from the previous 18 percent.

Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, Ueno Atsushi, reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to the country's development, especially in transport and logistics. Minister of Public Works and Transport, Peng Ponea, also highlighted Japan’s key role in PAS's growth, including the construction of the new terminal.

PAS, Cambodia's only international and commercial deep seaport, has seen continuous expansion with Japan’s support. In 2023, the port handled nearly 800,000 TEUs and over 19 million tonnes of cargo. With a three-phase development plan in place, PAS aims to further increase its capacity to handle more than 2.67 million TEUs annually by 2030.
