U.S. Travel Ban Proposal Could Impact Cambodia

Cambodia faces potential travel restrictions under a proposed U.S. policy aimed at improving national security.
The Trump administration is reportedly reviewing a proposal for a broad travel ban that could affect citizens from up to 43 countries, including Cambodia. As part of an internal proposal, Cambodia has been placed on the "yellow" list, signaling that it has 60 days to address security and immigration concerns before facing possible visa restrictions. While the specifics of Cambodia’s inclusion are not fully clear, countries in this category often struggle with sharing traveler information or have weak passport security measures.

If Cambodia does not meet U.S. expectations within the designated timeframe, it could be moved to the "orange" or "red" categories, leading to significantly restricted visa access for citizens. This could have major consequences for Cambodian business travelers, tourists, and students hoping to visit the U.S., as well as for the Cambodian-American community seeking to reunite with family members.

The proposal is still under review, and changes to the list are possible as diplomatic negotiations continue. If implemented, the new policy would mark a significant expansion of travel restrictions compared to those imposed during former President Trump’s first term.
