Child Jesus Catholic Church hosts a charity concert to raise funds for a transformative school project
Phnom Penh’s Child Jesus Catholic Church will host a unique charity concert on November 25, blending the beauty of Mozart’s music with a powerful mission to build a 10-storey school for children with autism. The concert, _Mozart Spiritual Bouquet_, features performances by Japanese mezzo-soprano Ai Iwasaki and the Cambodia Opera Project, aiming to inspire action and raise $1 million for the Growing Special Education School (GSES).
Founded in 2017, GSES has provided essential education and therapy for 313 children with autism, yet continues to operate in rented spaces. The new facility will include therapy rooms, sensory spaces, and a swimming pool, significantly enhancing support for families. Sponsorship tiers and donations from the event will directly fund the school’s construction.
GSES founder Phok Many, herself a parent of an autistic child, emphasized the profound impact the school has had on students and families, enabling many to transition into general education. With widespread stigma and limited resources still affecting Cambodian children with autism, this project offers a beacon of hope and a call for inclusion.
