Digital Innovations Empower Small Businesses in Cambodia’s E-Commerce Sector
Global Alliance initiatives drive progress for MSMEs through streamlined logistics and enhanced trade readiness
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) form the backbone of Cambodia's economy, representing 99% of the private sector and contributing over 70% of employment and 58% of GDP. However, only 10% of Cambodia's exports come from MSMEs due to challenges in accessing global markets. Addressing these barriers, the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation has implemented initiatives to streamline logistics and expand digital trade opportunities.
A key achievement is the introduction of an Electronic Advance Data platform, connecting Cambodia Post and Customs to enhance shipping efficiency and regulatory compliance. This has reduced delays for inbound and outbound shipments and improved risk management. Additionally, the Alliance launched the BoxShipper e-logistics platform, simplifying shipping services for over 600 small businesses.
Complementing these innovations, the Small Package Exporter Champions program has strengthened the online presence and export readiness of Cambodian MSMEs. Within a year, 55% of participants successfully exported their goods, with many reporting increased revenues, higher wages, and expanded workforces.
