Cambodia and China Strengthen Tourism Ties

New initiatives to boost travel, cultural exchange, and economic collaboration unveiled at international conference
Cambodia and China have announced a range of tourism initiatives aimed at enhancing travel connections and cultural exchanges, unveiled during the 2024 International Friendship Cities Conference in Siem Reap. Key developments include the launch of the China-Cambodia Tourism Cooperation and Exchange Mechanism and new direct flight routes from China to Cambodia, boosting accessibility and tourism growth.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin emphasized tourism as a bridge for economic and cultural ties, highlighting plans for more direct flights and collaborative events, such as the "Visit Siem Reap 2024" campaign. The campaign celebrates the "Special Year of Cambodia-China People-to-People Exchange" with cultural fairs and performances showcasing both nations' traditions.

Siem Reap Governor Prak Sophoan noted the province’s partnerships with Chinese provinces and the opening of the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. These efforts, coupled with strong visitor growth—Chinese tourists accounted for over 600,000 arrivals in 2024—underline Cambodia's readiness to welcome Chinese travelers and foster deeper cultural connections.
