Cambodia Conducts Seventh Community Visit to Strengthen Border Management and Socio-Economic Development

200 Participants Explore Cambodia-Vietnam Border Areas to Enhance Local Livelihoods and National Unity
On October 26, 2024, as part of ongoing community-focused initiatives, 200 participants departed from Phnom Penh early Saturday morning to embark on the seventh visit to Cambodia’s Northeast border areas, including Tbong Khmum, Kratie, and Mondulkiri provinces. The group arrived at their first destination, Anlong Chrey Development Village in Ponhea Krek District, by 8:15 AM to assess local conditions and border management practices. This visit aims to provide firsthand insights into the geographical and socio-economic developments along the Cambodia-Vietnam border, evaluating infrastructure improvements and the living conditions of local residents.

The delegation continued their tour through Kratie and Mondulkiri, with plans to return to Phnom Penh by evening. This series, launched in early September 2024, has now seen a total of 1,311 participants, with approximately 3,500 individuals registered for future tours. Past visits have been positively received by community members, including monks and families, who have reported secure and beneficial experiences. These excursions serve to dispel uncertainties about border issues, showcasing effective Cambodian border management and fostering a sense of national unity and prosperity in these regions.

Funded by Prime Minister Hun Manet, Dr. Pich Chanmony, and philanthropists, the initiative is independent of the national budget or border infrastructure funds. It underscores the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and social stability while enhancing socio-economic conditions and infrastructure in border communities. By encouraging active citizen participation, the government aims to improve local livelihoods, promote national unity, and counter misinformation, thereby supporting Cambodia’s vision for a stable and prosperous future.
