The Cambodian government has announced the opening of six new direct air routes, linking the country to popular destinations in Asia, including Thailand, Vietnam, China, and Singapore. This move is expected to provide a significant boost to Cambodia’s tourism industry and national economy.

The new routes, operated by various local and regional airlines, will make it easier for tourists to access Cambodia’s top attractions such as Angkor, the beaches of Sihanoukville, and the capital city of Phnom Penh. As of late 2024, the number of air travelers to Cambodia has already increased by 22 percent compared to 2023, with further growth expected by year-end. The government estimates that air traffic could rise by 67 percent by the end of the year compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

The new air routes are part of Cambodia’s broader strategy to recover and grow its tourism sector post-pandemic. Significant investments in airport infrastructure, including the ongoing construction of Techo International Airport, are expected to enhance Cambodia’s appeal as a top travel destination.
