The Prambei Mom Community Forest in Kampong Speu province is urgently seeking donations to provide essential patrol equipment for their 14-member team dedicated to protecting hundreds of wildlife species. Operating within the 1,221-hectare Trapeang Kraeunh village and surrounding areas, the patrol team conducts daily inspections to dismantle illegal traps that threaten animals like banteng, pangolins, and peacocks. Community head Soeun Lay highlighted the challenges they face, including shortages of uniforms, equipment, and especially fuel, which is crucial for their day and night patrols.

Despite their relentless efforts, illegal traps continue to pose a significant threat, leading to injuries and deaths among wildlife for over two decades. The patrol team relies heavily on donations to cover necessary resources, as current support only provides three containers of gasoline per month, while their needs are up to eight containers. Additionally, restrictions from a neighboring company limit their ability to search for and remove traps in certain areas, further hindering their conservation work.

To address these challenges, the Prambei Mom Community Forest is calling on donors to contribute financially, with each donation package costing around 40,000 riel ($10). On November 3, a group of young volunteers will plant trees and support the patrol team, encouraging the public to help sustain their vital conservation efforts. By donating, supporters can play a crucial role in preserving Cambodia’s rich biodiversity and ensuring the protection of natural resources for future generations.
