Stung Treng Implements Closed Fishing Season to Protect Fisheries

Provincial Administration Takes Measures to Preserve Fish Population
Stung Treng Province in Cambodia is taking proactive steps to preserve its fish population by implementing a closed fishing season from May 1 to September 30 annually. The decision, announced by the Stung Treng Provincial Administration, aims to protect key species during their high incubation period and prevent the use of destructive fishing methods.

During the closed season, fishing with all types of nets is prohibited to safeguard fish populations. Additionally, the use of electric shock devices and explosives, which pose significant threats to fisheries, must cease immediately.

Despite these restrictions, fishermen are still permitted to fish using family-owned gear such as fishing lines and nets, as well as traditional tools that comply with the law and support their families' livelihoods.

The Stung Treng Provincial Administration emphasizes the importance of responsible fishing practices and urges fishermen to adhere to the regulations outlined in the announcement. By following these measures, the community can contribute to the preservation and sustainable use of fish resources for future generations.
