Cambodia and Laos Strengthen Tourism Cooperation through Joint Working Group and B2B Forum

Third Meeting in Siem Reap Focuses on Enhancing Bilateral Tourism Initiatives for 2023-2024
The third meeting of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Tourism Working Group and the Cambodia-Laos Tourism Business to Business Forum was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, this week. The gathering brought together key officials and business leaders from both countries to identify and discuss potential joint activities aimed at enhancing bilateral tourism cooperation under the 2023-2024 action plan. Attendees included Mr. Phouthone Dalalom, Deputy Director General of the Tourism Marketing Department of Laos’ Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism; Dr. Thok Sokhom, Cambodia’s Secretary of State; Mr. Ing Kimleang, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap province; and Dr. Chuk Chumno, Director General of Tourism Development, International Cooperation.

Mr. Phouthone emphasized the longstanding and close relationship between Laos and Cambodia, particularly in the tourism sector, which is a crucial component of both economies. He highlighted the significant revenue generated from tourism, which supports development and creates job opportunities for local communities. The meeting provided a valuable platform for strengthening cooperation and exploring new ways to implement shared tourism activities, as well as for businesses to establish useful contacts and develop joint tour programs. Participants expressed appreciation for the ongoing collaboration and discussed strategies to effectively achieve the goals outlined in the Cambodia-Laos Joint Action Plan on Tourism Cooperation for 2023-2024.

The action plan, adopted by the tourism ministers of both nations, focuses on four main areas of cooperation: travel facilitation and border crossing, human resource development and capacity building, marketing, and the development of tourism products and linkages. Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Quang Ngai, Dinh Thi Hong Minh, also attended, reaffirming Quang Ngai’s support for Laos’ renewal efforts and the importance of bilateral cooperation in tourism. The enhanced collaboration aims to deepen the solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, contributing to the overall strengthening of bilateral relations.
