Cambodia Aims to Attract More International Tourists for Post-Pandemic Revival

Senior Tourism Official Highlights Importance of Foreign Visitors for Tourism Recovery
As Cambodia endeavors to rejuvenate its tourism industry in the aftermath of the pandemic, a senior tourism official emphasizes the significance of attracting international tourists, particularly from China, to bolster the sector's recovery.

Tang Sochetkresna, the director of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Department of Tourism, expressed optimism about the prospects of welcoming more foreign tourists to Preah Sihanouk, a key tourist destination in Cambodia.

Sochetkresna urged the governments of China, European nations, and ASEAN countries to collaborate in encouraging airline companies to resume direct flights to Cambodia, which were suspended during the pandemic. He highlighted the importance of such air connections in facilitating tourism revival efforts.

Emphasizing Preah Sihanouk's tourism potential, Sochetkresna pointed out the province's robust physical infrastructure, abundant natural resources, an international seaport, and an expressway linking it with the capital city, Phnom Penh. He highlighted the province's picturesque bays and islands, coupled with high-quality tourism services catering to international visitors.

Amid Cambodia's traditional New Year celebrations, Preah Sihanouk has organized a range of festive activities, including a Songkran festival, concerts, trade exhibitions, and cultural performances at various tourist sites. The province is prepared to welcome international tourists with traditional dances and warm hospitality at Sihanouk International Airport.

Local vendors, such as Seong Chantha, underscored the importance of tourism for their livelihoods, expressing eagerness to see more tourists, particularly from China, as they contribute significantly to the local economy and create employment opportunities for Cambodian residents.

With its pristine beaches and clean environment, Preah Sihanouk continues to attract both domestic and international tourists, as highlighted by Uy Meyta, a local tourist, who praised the province's natural beauty and affordability.

Prime Minister Hun Manet aims to surpass pre-pandemic tourism levels by 2025, showcasing the government's commitment to revitalizing the sector, which serves as a vital pillar of Cambodia's economy.
