Cambodia Allocates $100 Million to Stabilize Agricultural Prices

Prime Minister Hun Manet announces funding during the inauguration of Kirisu Dairy Farm in Takeo province.
In a bid to tackle the challenges posed by fluctuating agricultural prices, the Cambodian government has pledged a substantial $100 million towards agricultural interventions. Prime Minister Hun Manet unveiled this initiative during the inauguration ceremony of the Kirisu Dairy Farm in Bati district, Takeo province.

Acknowledging the struggles faced by farmers due to unpredictable market conditions, Prime Minister Manet reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring stability in agricultural prices. Emphasizing the pivotal role of the agricultural sector in Cambodia's economy, he affirmed the government's resolve to support initiatives aimed at enhancing production quality and maintaining equilibrium in the agricultural market, with a specific focus on strategic crops.

This financial commitment serves as a reassurance to farmers and investors alike, underlining the government's dedication to fostering an environment conducive to the growth of agricultural enterprises amidst market uncertainties.

Prime Minister Manet also expressed gratitude towards Khmer Fresh Milk Co., Ltd., and other companies for their investments in the dairy farming sector. These investments play a vital role in bolstering the local supply of fresh milk, with Cambodia currently hosting four dairy farms housing nearly 1,200 dairy cattle. Together, these farms produce approximately 13,000 liters of fresh milk daily, covering a significant portion of the country's domestic demand.

Despite the progress in local milk production, Cambodia continues to rely heavily on imported fresh milk, with annual imports amounting to approximately 98,000 tonnes, valued at 734 million dollars. The government's initiative aims to reduce this dependency by strengthening the domestic agricultural and dairy industries, thereby promoting self-sufficiency and stability in Cambodia's agricultural market.
