The first day of the Khmer Traditional New Year holiday saw a remarkable influx of tourists across Cambodia, with over 1.38 million people visiting various tourism destinations, according to a report released today.

Among the visitors, more than 1.36 million were local tourists, showcasing the enthusiasm of Cambodian residents for celebrating their traditional New Year festivities. Additionally, nearly 20,000 foreigners joined in the celebrations, highlighting the appeal of Cambodia's cultural and festive experiences to international travelers.

Leading the pack in tourist arrivals were the Battambang region, comprising Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pailin, and Pursat provinces. The region's rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes attracted a significant number of visitors keen to explore its charm.

Following closely behind were the coastal destinations of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kèp, and Koh Kong provinces, known for their pristine beaches, vibrant coastal culture, and diverse culinary offerings. These coastal regions provided the perfect backdrop for tourists seeking relaxation and seaside adventures during the New Year holiday.

Additionally, the cultural region encompassing Kampong Thom, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, and Siem Reap provinces witnessed a steady flow of tourists eager to delve into Cambodia's history, heritage, and ancient temples, including the iconic Angkor Wat.

As Cambodian people celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Dragon from April 13 to 16, the festive spirit is palpable across the country. From traditional ceremonies to cultural performances and culinary delights, tourists and locals alike are embracing the joyous atmosphere of the Khmer New Year celebrations.
